Why do you need a Aston Martin or Lamborghini if you only drive your car to work? A lot of people mistake their wants for their needs. I am obviously a culprit here too. I am one of those people that always want the best of something, ex: Why do I want to stay in the 3 star hotel if I can stay in the 5 star? I am merely using a hotel as an example to portray the fact that I switch my needs and wants numerous times.
This is a real pitfall for a lot of people in their lives. They buy cars, houses, appliances, toys that they want just for the sake of having it. Things that they actually can’t afford. Yes, there sure are living essentials that are needed on a daily basis, but if you aren’t living in the $100K+ salary a year bracket, there are no need to jump into the deep end because your friend the hedge-fund manager has a $2000 coffee machine….catching my drift?
By simply listing your needs and weighing it up against your wants and making sure you only buy what you need, you will not only ease the weight on your shoulders, but you will come across as a total new person. I’m not saying you shouldn’t ever get anything you want, I’m just saying that these things take time and patience is important unless you want to live a stressful lifestyle.
The point I’m trying to make is that you should weigh up your options before buying anything. Make sure that you can comfortably afford it without laying off any other expense and that you need it. Obviously every persons needs are different, but I will let you be the judge of that.
