When you hear the name Cameron Russell, the only thing you might picture in your head is a very petite, beautiful woman that models lingerie for a living. Digging deeper you might notice that her head is actually screwed on right. She isn’t full of herself, doesn’t think of herself as an idol for anyone and loves to help people in need.
Unfortunately we can’t say the same for most models out there. They love the limelight, the attention and think they are better than most people. They still need to learn that everyone in this world is equal…
Now you might be wondering why the heck I’m writing about Cameron Russell? Well she gave a really great speech at TEDxMidAtlantic admitting that she won a ‘genetic’ lottery and asks people not to judge her by her looks as the industry makes the girls look highly seductive at a young age. She shows you the truth about how photographers, designers and makeup artists build portraits of models that don’t resemble who they are in real life.
She shows you pictures side by side of what she looked like on shoot day and what the final image looked like after it’s gone through the process. It makes you realize that every cover you’ve seen out there has been tampered with. Every girl has been touched up somehow and every scene is a construction that makes use of creative minds to put together.
She tells the truth.
Now other than that, I don’t really have too much to say about Cameron as she made her decisions early in life and it has gotten her some extraordinary rewards through her career. This just shows you that each person in life has their own path to follow. Each person has a destiny. Some become famous overnight and others work right through their lives without seeing the limelight once.
But before I get carried away here though, please watch her talk as it has been going viral the past few days. It might put you back in your seat and make you realize that not all models are the same.
