Life is about taking risks, getting out of your comfort zone and doing things that could possibly pay off big-time in the end.

Today’s guest was born and raised in South Africa and then made her way to Los Angeles to be a full-time movie producer. Her work in the movie business started in South Africa, but Karen really believed there were bigger things in store for her.

Karen has served as an in-house commercial producer/production supervisor for Turbine Films and Producer at LiveTribe as well as freelance producing for several other production companies.

She has produced numerous award-winning independent films, TV commercials and interactive/transmedia projects working with executive producers Deepak Nayar (Bend It Like Beckham), Conrad Riggs (Survivor, Apprentice) and Robert Lawrence (Clueless). Clients include the ESPN, Discovery, BET, and GAC networks, and brands such as Target, PepsiCo/Mountain Dew, Skullcandy, Vans, Cisco, Scion, LA Phil Orchestra, and the U.S. Military.

In today’s episode Karen and I talk about her journey, what got her through the rough times, the glamour side of the movie business, her tips for aspiring producers, a day in the life of and so much more.

I first came across Karen on a Periscope broadcast hosted by Elena Cardone and to which I recognized the South African accent. So I hope you’re ready for a great interview today.
