How to Make your Millennial Employees Happy on their First Day

After doing a lot of research and interviewing 32 Millennial candidates for an open position at your company, you finally have someone in your sights.

You call your assistant and ask her to schedule a quick call to Mandy Moore that you interviewed this morning. As Mandy picks up the phone, you throw your credentials at her and offer her the job at your company. She sounds excited and agrees to come in and sign her employment contract.

She arrives the next morning bright and early with a few doubtful questions surrounding her new employment, but after a few minutes of back and forth you both sign the agreement and Mandy is on her way with a diluted smile. She will be starting Monday, but she doesn’t look to delighted in landing the job.

Hopefully her mood changes over the weekend…

I am Going to Die and so Are You

Death is inevitable. I won’t live forever. It’s going to be up to me whether or not I leave this planet a happy or sad man.

It’s going to be up to me whether or not I lived a true life to that which I am capable of. It’s going to be up to me to nurse the friendships that I have. It’s going to be up to me whether or not I do what matters.

It’s going to be up to me…

I was lying on the couch over lunch time and read an article about a man that knew he was going to die in 7 days. How do you even ready yourself for something like that? I questioned myself whether or not I am ready for death.(Yes, I am still young, but anything can happen.) A tingling feeling spread through my body as the question in my head set the mood.

Do I daily do what really matters? Do I get up in the morning and do exactly what is expected of me?

Come to think of it; What really matters?

My passion and understanding for what I believe matters. My businesses matter. God matters. The people that work with me matter. Friends matter. So why do I get up every morning? To do what matters.

Do you?

One Random Act a Day

If you were able to do one random thing everyday for one year and influence 365 people. Wouldn’t you do it every day?

I know I would.

Sitting around a table at McDonalds with some friends in 2010 we joked about a scenario that involved random public acts to draw attention to certain businesses. We kept making suggestions of things to do and tried predicting the possible outcomes of said acts.

The tale turned when I pushed in the idea of saving a life. Helping those people that didn’t have anymore hope to live.

Now we started speaking about the possibility of creating a movement that involved a random act and saving a persons life.

“How would that work?,” was one of the first questions that arose.

How I would use Trello to move my House

I have been using Trello for quite some time now and I can say that it helps me organize my life. I have a very busy schedule and without organization I would be lost. So back to the point here..I recently moved into a new house and after moving with all the confusion of boxes, furniture, clothing, appliances etc. I sat down and tried to simplify the process for when/if I would be moving again in the future. Hopefully not. Haha

So whilst I sat on the couch watching the sun rise over the ocean, conjuring up a plan in my head to create a system for simplifying the moving phase… it hit me…TRELLO.

Why didn’t I just setup and use Trello when we started packing in the first place? The funny thing is that it would have been faster, everyone would have known where they should put what when they offloaded and I wouldn’t be looking for things all over the house.

What you have, shouldn’t Change Who You Are

Young businessman driving on Shutterstock

You heard me. The title says it all. I shouldn’t actually write anything else in this article. However, I’m going to.

According to a lot of people the more things you have the happier you become..well that’s a myth…according to me. Materialistic assets shouldn’t evaluate your happiness or who you are.

I can vouch for the fact that having things doesn’t bring happiness. Maybe short term excitement, but nothing else..

People that are friends with you because of what you have are fake. Suss them out, make your move and get rid of them. It sounds harsh, but its for the better that way.

Donald Trump said: “You are going to lose friends on your way to the top, you are going to try talk yourself out of it and you are going to cry about all of it. When you do reach the top however, everyone is going to want to be friends with you.”

All for the wrong reasons I might add.

5 Steps to Constraining Your Budget

Shutterstock

With inflation through the roof; everything has gone up in price. Food, petrol, electricity and even water has become a big monthly expense. People have to pay more and live off of the same salaries which is causing them to rack up debt like crazy.

This definitely isn’t ideal though. Debt should be controllable. You should only rack up good debt and remember that you don’t have to impress anybody. Will Smith said it well.

Too many people are buying things they can’t afford, with money that they don’t have… to impress people that they don’t like! – Will Smith

So with times like these, being tough on your monthly salaries, how do you still live a good life, but cut costs in the process? Let me give you a simple five step process on how to constrain your budget.

Why I Gym Everyday + Fitness Goals

Shutterstock

Staying fit is a very important factor in your day to day life. Especially if you are someone that works long hours, handles a lot of different things and carries pressure with it. Going to the gym on a daily basis will not only boost your performance physically, but mentally too.

Training clears your mind, makes you think and reflect as well as conjure up new ideas. For me, going to the gym daily doesn’t feel like a chore, it’s part of my lifestyle. I feel bad when I need to miss sessions over work or any other appointments that I might have. Training on a daily basis gives me a sense of calmness, relaxation, boosts my thinking patterns and the only competition I have in front of me is myself.

When I left school I weighed in at 71kg, being very thin for someone that is 6FT, 3inches. It was due to the fact that I was hospitalized in early 2010 and because I was working non stop and not sleeping a lot. I made the decision that I needed to get back into shape and at the end of 2010 I was clocking the scale at 85kg. I picked up 14kg that year which was a lot of muscle and some fat, but good fat.

How Much is a Trillion Dollars?

Some governments throw around a trillion dollars as if it wasn’t worth anything. How much is a trillion dollars exactly? Do you know? Have you ever seen that much money in your life? Will you ever see that much money? Some people might, if they save for a thousand years.

How long do you still have to live? Do you know? Does anyone know?

What do you still want to accomplish in your lifetime here on Earth? Build an Orphanage, giveaway a Million bucks, sell vinyls on the street corner?

Each and every person has different goals that they are set out to accomplish. They want to make X amount of money to by X amount of clothes, cars, houses, boats and stuff that don’t really matter to anyone, but themselves.

Now a lot of people don’t really have goals set up. They haven’t taken time to sit back and write up a list of To Do’s because they think that they won’t be able to complete them. They feel that they need to be making millions in order to reach their dreams.
